Counselling and Therapy
What is Therapy?
For many, just the word ‘therapy’ can cause a slightly nervous reaction! Therapy or counselling unfortunately still has a fairly substantial stigma associated with it – often due to visions of laying on a couch with a Freudian Psychoanalyst in the background, asking probing questions about your mother. While it would be false to say that a psychologist does not ask about your family background, the experience of therapy for most people is an interactive, respectful relationship that allows for self-expression in a safe environment. This ultimately fuels progress towards goals such as healing and self-awareness, among many others. Goals are usually client-driven, with your therapist acting as a skilled guide or coach.
Most of us are challenged by one or more of the following at some point in our lives:
» depression
» anxiety
» grief/loss
» low self-esteem
» relationship issues
» finding your purpose in life
» family/parenting problems
Counselling or therapy can help you to become:
» happier
» healthier
» more confident
» more accepting of yourself and others
» hopeful
» more calm
Don’t let the words ‘counselling’ or ‘therapy’ scare you. The goal is to help you work through issues and develop practical solutions through truly interactive sessions. You’ll be supported with insight and feedback, always with a sensitive and compassionate approach. You can feel comfortable and confident that you’ll have a new perspective on your situation plus tangible solutions for moving forward. Utilizing an approach based on personal experience, education and passion, I work with individuals and couples to identify barriers and create solutions towards desired goals.
If you have any questions about how therapy or counselling may benefit you, please call or email – I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have!
